This is not a fantasy - a poem

This is not a fantasy
I often fantasize myself as someone else in my dreams,
I have been a superhero countless times,
I have been a politician, a film star and even a cricketer,
I have lived as impressive and attractive persons in my daydreams,
I have lived as a parent, friend and even lover.
But it was always easy to think of these lives,
Except the life of a family which I saw on the road today,
Everytime I try to imagine myself in their place,
I accept it is hard, impossible.
It was a family of four,
Parents and their two kids, one boy and one girl.
Both parents were blind,
Kids were in school uniform,
They were waiting for the traffic to stop,
So that they could help their small innocent kids to
Cross the road.
I imagined myself as the father and
Couldn’t think of how I would provide for the family
But this man was doing so.
I imagined myself as the mother and
Couldn’t think of how I shall raise the kids
But this woman was doing so.
This couple certainly had a dream for their kids
But I couldn’t imagine how they would have dreamt it
By now I am exhausted
And my eyes have tears.
This is not a fantasy,
This real life in a real world.

A Summer Day

This is a short story fiction I wrote for competition that wanted 10 given words to be included in the story. Though I did not win, here is the story.

A short love story on a summer day.

It was a hot summer day. It was exam time - O GOD! - so I had to be at the study table. I kept looking at my watch, time was not passing and nothing seemed to be entering my head. And once again, for the umpteenth time, I stood up and went to the window. I looked outside. Every thing seemed to be simmering; there was no respite from heat. I could see a dog sitting in the shade of tree across the road with its tongue sticking out.

I came back to my table, started reading. Suddenly I felt a sharp pain on my neck, as if a needle going into my neck. My hand went to my neck in a reflex and crushed the Ant that was loitering there. The realization dawned on me that I was not at all interested in reading, so I got up took my empty glass from the table and carried it to the kitchen sink. I wanted to go outside and play with my friends but it was so hot outside. Nevertheless, I went to the door.

Lo and Behold! , clouds had covered the sky, no trace of sunshine, it had started to rain and cool breeze was flowing into my face, I felt so elated. What is this! , there was some vibration in pants. I took out my cell from pocket which was in vibrate mode. It was my neighbour cum classmate calling me. He wanted me to clear his doubts but I was in no mood to do anything of the sort. So, I called him by my favourite slangs and hung up.

Now I was on the road and enjoying rain. I felt pity on people carrying Umbrella over their heads, for they were certainly missing out on some real fun. I started playing with little kids, dancing, jumping on the puddles. I was completely lost in myself and rain and enjoying the chilly atmosphere.

Suddenly, a very loud honk from a car took the living daylights out of me. It was a Chevrolet Optra and it braked to a halt just inches from my legs. Nice car! , it does not make any sound unless the horn is used and what a horn! I moved over to one side and wanted to say some appropriate words to the driver. As I blabbering some really mean stuff from my mouth, I saw the car door open and a sandal coming out and resting on the road, then the sight that I saw was so bright that I forgot the rain and remembered the sun that was shining before the rain started. Oh my God, She was so beautiful and I was shouting at her like a ruffian. Her lips with bright red lipstick really took my breath away.

She said, “What were you saying?”.
But I kept staring at her angel face. She raised her hand in one quick motion and crashed it on my face. Then she sat back in her car and sped away. I could see a satellite revolving around my head along with some stars. I have never seen that girl again. Whew!, what a short love story.
